anotherlongstoryshort:

  • “Dr. Banner.”
  • “Oh, yeah, hi. They told me you’d be coming.”
  • “Word is you can find the cube.”
  • “Is, uh, is that the only word on me?”
  • “The only word I care about.”
  • “… Must be strange for you, all of this.”

Okay, can I just, fangirl all over this for a moment? Because I know that everyone  gets caught up in the abrasive tension between Steve and Tony, and all the science bro feels but… I loved this. They have literally just met each other, knowing only what they’ve read in files or seen on tv, and they both immediately reassure the other that their big character flaws don’t bother them.

Steve makes sure Bruce knows that he respects him as a scientist and is grateful he’s here to help. Sure, later he’s a bit stand-offish but he’s a soldier. He’s used to assessing a threat and planning for the worst possible outcome. And Bruce hulking out was a real possibility for a while before it actually happened. He was being realistic, but maintained the whole time that he didn’t think anything that could happen would be Bruce’s fault.

And Bruce is the only person in this entire movie, with the exception of Fury who has history with Steve, to acknowledge he might be feeling a bit out of place. The man was frozen for seventy years and Bruce was the only one to  broach the subject of ‘are you sure you’re okay being in the middle of this?’. I mean, the Hulk only came about because Bruce was trying to replicate Steve’s serum - there’s a case there for him to hate Captain America and maybe blame him for how his life has turned out. But he doesn’t.

Steve knows what it’s like to have someone meet you and judge you on what they think they know. Bruce knows what it’s like to feel cut off completely from society. They probably understand each other a great amount and I’m sad it doesn’t really come up again.

/end rant

THIS!!! It’s why I really hate it when fandom portrays Steve as rude and mean for no reason. His initial reaction to Bruce was one of my favorite character beats in the film. And thank you for highlighting that Bruce attempted to do the same in return, because I had actually completely forgotten about that.

Steve Rogers is not afraid of strong women.
Steve Rogers is not afraid of strong women.
Stop it with the fic where Steve is terrified of Natasha, or Maria, or Pepper, or guh, Darcy. I guess people think it’s cute, or whatever.
Seriously. Strong women don’t make Steve scared, they make him swoon.
The only thing Steve is afraid of is that strong women won’t like him.

Fandom. I am getting really fucking sick and tired of this homophobic Steve shit.

You wanna know what Steve has to say about gay people?

(and then he has Jarvis set them up a room together)

There you go.

WORD WORD AND WORD.

Not to mention the “omg gender roles” shit. Yeah, I can see him being hilariously old-fashioned when it comes to like, actually dating someone. But never even goddamned mind Peggy fucking Carter, were you guys even watching the same Avengers as me? The part where Natasha was the first person he went to when he needed a jet to tail Tony to New York with? Or later, when he was handing out orders, and her assignment was essentially “I got your six, you get mine”? Or perhaps the part after that where he FLUNG HER TWENTY FEET IN THE AIR TO HIJACK AN EXTRATERRESTRIAL JETSKI?

Steve Rogers has no problem with Legitimately Empowered Women. He’s canonically kinda weak for ‘em. (caveat: I ship it. So hard.) Yeah, he’s from Ye Olden Days, but through his entire existence, MCU canon and otherwise, he’s been a champion of the common man, fairness and equality.

“I don’t like bullies. I don’t care where they’re from.” And this is why I love me the hell out of some Cap.

^So very much this.

This is a big part of why I have loved Cap since I got my hands on my uncle’s comics when I was a kid. It would have been easy for him to be all jingoistic patriotism and pining for the ‘good old days,’ but instead we got Steve Rogers, a man out of time, even in his own time.

#seriously tho whose fucking job was it to pick the baseball game #JUST PICK ONE FROM THE YEAR AFTER HE FROZE LIKE HOW HARD IS THIS#captain america #i hope they fired that person

Coulson probably told them to pick a game from 1945 or 46. He told them Steve would know. The other agents waved him off. “How could he know?” they asked. “Rogers isn’t that knowledgeable about baseball.” Coulson pressed the issue. They ignored him.

After - after Steve woke up and busted the wall and made a huge scene - Coulson sent a mass e-mail to every S.H.I.EL.D. employee. There was no body, just a subject line: “I told you so.”

“It will never cease to fascinate me—” Tony interrupted himself with a large bite of pizza, sitting back in his chair and leaning on the armrest, not quite leaning against Bruce but as close as he could manage. “—the crown prince of a realm full of gods, growing up feasting at the royal table of somebody’s version of the Almighty, and no amount of gourmet cuisine I throw at you has fascinated you as much as our junk food. Has anyone given him Oreos yet?”

Steve stopped short on his way back to his seat, staring at Tony in amazement. “They still make Oreos?!”

This adorable RP moment has triggered in me a desperate need for “Steve finds things from his childhood/youth that are still around and is happy and adorable” fic. MAKE IT HAPPEN, TUMBLR.
