Puns aside, I think it’d be an interesting concept to explore. Some Team Rocket scheme or some-such goes awry and triggers a worldwide disaster wrecks havoc around the world. Whole ecosystems are destroyed, some pokemon are nearly wiped out, others seem to thrive, others still undergo unusual mutant evolutions because of the exposure to the strange energies unleashed by the disaster.
But then I have a long time love of post-apoc settings going back to, at the very least, the original Fallout.
I actually just sort of shoehorned Pokemon awkwardly into Falloutverse. Player characters would probably be people from a vault made in Hoenn or something like that where their ‘social experiment’ was keeping to a strict code of solving everything through Pokemon battles (something Vaultech thinks of as totally nutty but is ‘standard’ for the games). Then they get kicked out onto this radioactive wasteland full of horribly mutated pokemon out to eat everyone’s faces, oh and also ghouls, oh and also whatever remaining forces of the Chinese army exist.
Actually based on a dream I had that mostly involved stumbling into a tree full of mutated pikachu and raichu. All of their faces were intensely skull-like, and their eyes were glowing, so it was pretty much just a bunch of teeth and glowing eyes…. it was scary at the time, lol
That does sound cool. Creepy as hell, but that goes hand in hand with the setting.
